Newsletter – July/August

A public event in the series of forums jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Economic Association and Gamani Corea Foundation, on the topic “Financial Sector Resilience amidst External Shocks", took place on July 15th at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute, Horton Place, Colombo 07.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. K. G. P. Sirikumara, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and was followed by an interactive panel discussion and Q&A, moderated by Mr, Nisthar Cassim, Editor, Daily FT. The panel featured Prof. Priyanga Dunusinghe, Professor of Economics at the University of Colombo, Mr. J. P. R. Karunaratne, Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka; Mr. Damith Pallewatte, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of HNB; and Mr. Romani De Silva, Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Alliance Finance Company PLC.

The resilience of Sri Lanka’s financial system can no longer be measured by capital, liquidity and profitability alone, with policymakers and financial institutions needing to adapt to an era where geopolitical tensions, climate risks, cyber threats and technological disruption have become permanent features of the operating environment, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Deputy Governor K.G.P. Sirikumara said.

The Q&A session was coordinated by Dr. Harsha Aturupane. Daily FT was the print media partner.
